BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent announced the devastating news minutes into the programme. It comes amid the ongoing US-Isr@eli conflict with Iran which began over the weekend. During Monday’s episode, host Jon confirmed that an RAF base in Cyprus has been targeted in a suspected drone att@ck, according to the Ministry of Defence. Prime Minister Keir Starmer had agreed to a request made by the US to use UK military bases for defensive strikes on Iranian missile sites.

BBC world correspondent Jo Inwood delivered a tragic announcement during his report about the ongoing missile strikes. He explained that the UK has been “dragged into this conflict” after it was announced British bases could be used to assist the US. Jo confirmed the de@th toll has risen in the Middle East with civilians among the dead following the de@th of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was k!lled.

Jo said: “Isr@el’s de@th toll is steadily rising. In the town of Beit Shemesh at least eight people were k!lled by a single missile. That number could yet rise.”

He went on: “The circumstances are not yet clear but it has been confirmed that three US servicemen have been k!lled. Their first casualties, unlikely to be their last.”

Donald Trump recorded a new video address on Sunday, vowing to avenge three American de@ths after the joint US-Isr@eli strikes on Iran and accusing the Iranian regime of “waging war against civilization itself”.

The US president addressed the de@ths, saying “we grieve for the true American patriots who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, even as we continue the righteous mission for which they gave their lives” and called for prayers for “the full recovery” of five others that were seriously wounded.

But he warned: “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends. That’s the way it is likely to be more. But we’ll do everything possible where that won’t be the case.”
