Strictly Come Dancing finalist John Whaite took to his Instagram as he shared that he was run over by a car, and was rushed to hospital after waiting for an ambulance.
The TV chef best known for winning Great British Bake Off and placing second in Strictly Come Dancing, posted on his Instagram account used for his fitness progress as he shared the ordeal that took place this week.
Taking to his stories on the social media platform, he wrote: “Last night I got run over (seriously). I rolled up the bonnet damaging it and the windscreen, before splatting onto the road and crawling to the pavement where some angel of a human threw his coat around me and waited with me for an ambulance.”
He added: “The doctors said ‘thank god you’re 16 stone of muscle because it could have been fatal.’ Moral of the story: build strong muscle and core strength, and don’t wear black while crossing the road in the dark when an idiot comes speeding without looking…”
After the admission he reassured his followers and continued: “I’ve been scanned and poked and prodded and I’m ok” following the incident.
John then went to clear up a comment on “speeding” as he added: “For the avoidance of doubt, in my last post I said ‘speeding’. I used the term figuratively rather than literally.
“I mean: it was sudden and shocking. I don’t know what speed the driver was going. But it was enough to skittle me up onto his windscreen and down onto the floor.”

Fans of the BBC dance show will recall John as a finalist with professional dancer Johannes Radebe. They faced Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice in December’s final where the EastEnders actress and Italian dancer were crowned winners.
After the show, John admitted he found it difficult to leave it behind. He shared: “I went to Scotland after Strictly to live in a little cabin and get away from it all and I cried every day I was that depressed. It was the wrong thing to do, from Strictly to the Scottish Highlands it was a bit much, a bit polarising.”
In November of last year, he shared his five-year addiction to steroids which “made me want to end my life”. The star told his followers he began taking steroids during lockdown “because I looked in the mirror and hated what I saw”.
He added: “The more people acknowledged how I looked on steroids, the more I felt good about myself, I felt valid.” John urged: “You’ve only got one body, so please just respect it, please just let it do what it can do, don’t try and push it, stretch, eat well, try and get to the place where you look in the mirror and you see yourself with kind eyes.”
