Tense, tetchy and teary describes Prince Harry’s two hours on the witness stand yesterday. It’s an incredibly personal court case for him, with his evidence coming to a dramatic end yesterday when he described the idea that he shouldn’t be entitled to a private life as “disgusting”.
But the sheer emotion came when he spoke about the impact articles have had on the Duchess of Sussex, saying ANL have “made my wife’s life an absolute misery”. His lip wobbled, voice cracked as he recalled the toll the “thousands” of articles have had on him and his family.
Throughout his time on the stand his frustrations about the sheer number of articles about his private life threaten to boil over, with the judge having to interrupt Harry a couple of times to remind him that he needed to be simply answering the questions, not arguing his case.

But Harry found it hard not to speak up, saying he felt compelled to give as much context as possible, so the judge could “have an idea of what it is like living in this world”.
He was clearly exasperated that he wasn’t being allowed to get his point across by opposing counsel.
Harry’s resentment for being born into an institution where he felt unable to challenge what was being said about him in national newspapers was clear, and this case, and the others brought against the press, is about reclaiming control.
In his statement he says his mistrust dates back to the harassment of his late mother, as well as the more recent treatment of his wife.
He said it has been difficult to trust people when private information appeared in the press and that he had “lost touch” with friends because of his paranoia.
As a father and husband Harry wants to see this case through, which is why his emotions came to the surface at the end of his testimony.
What started off as snappy, ill-tempered remarks ended with the duke showing his softer side, as he discussed highly personal and private information that he claims was stolen from him.
