Loose Women fans were left fuming after noticing that Charlene White had not worn a poppy in order to honour Remembrance Day

Loose Women viewers expressed anger after observing that panellist Charlene White appeared not to be wearing a poppy whilst presenting the ITV daytime programme.

The ITV News presenter’s outfit seemingly lacked the symbol during a recent episode, which her fellow hosts had displayed.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer wrote: “Charlene shouldn’t be presenting as she doesn’t want to wear a poppy. No respect.”

A second commented: “I do think it’s disrespectful for Charlene not to wear a poppy. I know it gets mentioned every year.”

A third viewer questioned, “Charlene, why do you refuse to wear a Poppy? Every single person on the panel, in the audience, are wearing one, so why not you?”.

Charlene appeared alongside Oti Mabuse, former pop star Kelle Bryan and comedian Judi Love on the panel as they discussed Lily Allen’s separation from Stranger Things actor David Harbour, reports the Mirror.

What particularly frustrated viewers was the contrast between Charlene’s co-hosts wearing poppies whilst she appeared not to. The poppy serves as a symbol of remembrance for those who perished during the World Wars.

One viewer wrote: “Does Charlene not care that many men lost their lives fighting for our country? The disrespect of her not wearing a poppy is disgraceful.”

Another added: “Why isn’t Charlene White wearing a poppy? ! Everyone else on Loose Women panel is. Disgraceful.” Someone else said: “Total disgrace to the memory of those who gave their lives for our future.”

Nevertheless, some social media users rallied behind the broadcaster.

One supporter commented: “In a democracy, you are supposed to be free to have your own views and opinions, not what the poppy police say you should do.”

Another remarked: “Oops, the poppy police are out again.’ This isn’t the first occasion the presenter has chosen not to wear a poppy, and she has previously outlined her reasoning.”

In a piece for ITV published last year, she acknowledged it was “never an easy decision due to the racist and sexist abuse” she receives on social media. However, she recognised her choice would inevitably generate “a lot of anger.”

She explained that ITV regulations prevented her from visibly endorsing charities whilst “presenting ITV News programming.”

She continued: “Please don’t think that I don’t understand the sacrifices made by servicemen and women 100 years ago. I do. It is always important to remember what my family, your family, and millions of people over many generations have fought for: the right to choose, and the right of freedom of speech and expression.”
