Vicky Pattison has opened up about the ups and downs of her Strictly Come Dancing experience, following her departure with partner Kai Widdrington last month. The 38-year-old became the seventh contestant to leave the show after the judges chose to save EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal over her in the dance-off.

Vicky’s departure followed an energetic Jive performance to Girls Aloud’s Sound of the Underground, which resulted in a score of 27 points out of a possible 40. Reflecting on her Strictly journey with her friend Pete Wicks, who participated on the show last year, Vicky candidly discussed her difficulties with the routine.

“Listen, call a spade a spade, the Jive was not my f*****g dance, I will forever hate that p***k,” she said on the Staying Relevant podcast.

After Pete revealed that his dance partner Jowita Przystał stopped him from doing the Jive, Vicky joked that she wished Kai had done the same with her.

“Maybe he just had a bit more faith in us,” she added. “I am actually quite a bouncy person, so I think people would assume I really had the Jive in me like that, but I don’t think anyone anticipated me as being like a dignified ballroom girl, but I really took to ballroom and loved it.”

During the conversation, Vicky also confessed that tears flowed continuously for a week following her elimination from the show.

Discussing the “backstory” of her Strictly involvement with his audience, Pete began: “Vic has wanted to do this show for as long as I can remember. To the point you had mood boards or vision boards to do Strictly and I’ve never seen anyone so happy when you actually got the f*****g gig.”

He added: “Can I just say before we get into this, you were f*****g incredible, like genuinely.”

Reflecting on Vicky’s elimination, Pete went on to say he struggled to make out what she was saying over the phone because she was “blubbering”.

The former Geordie Shore star responded by saying she “didn’t like being sad” and appreciated having strong support around her, though “couldn’t snap out of it”.

“I was sad for about a week and I think,” she confessed. “I was speaking to everyone, like you, Sara Davies rang us, Ellie Taylor, Tom Fletcher rang us, I had such a lovely support structure.”

Upon learning that one previous Strictly participant had been “sad for a year”, she was determined to avoid the same fate.

“No I’m sorry, I’m not going to be sad for a year,” she continued. “I went on Strictly and had never danced sober, and I gave it everything I could. I’m not going to be sad about trying my best.”

While her departure made her upset, Vicky will be returning to the dance floor as one of the famous faces taking part in the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

Meanwhile, the television competition continues with just four pairs left fighting for the Glitterball trophy; Karen Carney and Carlos Gu, George Clarke and Alexis Warr, Balvinder and Julian Caillon, and Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin.

This follows actor Lewis Cope’s departure from the show, which many viewers considered an unexpected result.
