Alex Kingston and Johannes Radebe appeared on Strictly – It Takes Two on Monday night

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Alex Kingston has revealed the heart-warming gesture made by her husband after she became the eighth celebrity to leave the competition.

On Saturday night, November 29, Alex and professional dance partner Johannes Radebe performed a Cha Cha Cha to Anita Ward’s 1979 hit Ring My Bell and scored 23 points, after the judges – and Alex herself – noted a number of mistakes.

They became the eighth couple to leave after being eliminated during Sunday night’s results show (November 30). But appearing on Strictly – It Takes Two on Monday night (December 1), Alex became teary when talking about a heart-warming gesture made by her husband, TV producer Jonathan Stamp.

While becoming visibly emotional, Alex told Fleur: “I found out on Sunday my husband, he said to me, he has been taking, for the last five weeks, salsa lessons. So he’s been learning Salsa so he can be my partner.”

While Johannes also got teary, Alex said: “Because he realises how much this has meant for me, this journey, and he wants it to continue.” And then she added, speaking to Johannes: “But he does want some tips from you.”

In a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, @RyanSoapKing25 wrote: “Alex’s husband is learning how to do the Salsa so he can dance with Alex. OMFG MY HEART IS BURSTING!”

It comes after Alex revealed that she had sustained an injury before dancing on Saturday night, which she admitted “was upsetting”, to not be able to dance the way she had planned to.

Alongside partner Johannes, Alex – famed for roles in E.R and Doctor Who – spoke to Fleur East on Monday night’s Strictly It Takes Two (December 1) where she admitted that she “sustained an injury” while rehearsing for Saturday’s performance.

Alex told Fleur: “I was so exited to do the Cha Cha Cha – I was happy because I knew it was in my wheelhouse, but during the day I sustained an injury that got more aggravated as the day progressed. When it came to dancing, the injury distracted me and took my focus.”

She explained: “Obviously it was upsetting that I didn’t do the dance I wanted to for Jojo or the audience that night, but I felt at least I managed to get all the right steps on Sunday.”

Alex and Johannes have grown close over the course of the series so far, and Alex explained that although they are leaving the competition, it is not “goodbye” for good.

Alex told Fleur: “I dont feel its goodbye at all. Its not goodbye to this man at least – it’s au revoir for a little bit while we have Christmas, but after that it’s dinner, theatre, everything else.”

Speaking of the encouragement and support Alex had from fans, she said: “We were getting bouquets of flowers from fans, they really went out there and made us feel super special.”
