New addition to the MasterChef team, food critic and judge Grace Dent said: “Alun Wyn Jones’ journey during this competition has been remarkable. Fellow judge, John Torode added: “He’s focused, he’s precise, and his food’s becoming more and more delicious.”

When asking what inspire his dedication dish, John asked Alun Wyn: “Are we going to Wales today?”

Alun Wyn said that he was preparing a Welsh surf and turf-inspired dish which featured lamb, cockles, laverbread and leeks.

Grace then asked the former Wales captain: “Who’s inspiring the dish?”

Alun Wyn replied: “Probably about three million people that supported me for the first 20 years of my former career.”

He added: “But specifically my father for the laverbread. It was a staple for my dad on his Welsh breakfasts. And my wife for the lamb, because we had a rack of lamb on the wedding day.”

John replied: “The three million people who supported you through your early part of your career, how challenging was that?”

Alun Wyn said: “Oh, I think Wales is a small place, but the support means a lot to people. Ermm….”

He then got quite emotional, turning away from the judges as he became teary.

He joked: “I have been chopping onions as well.”

It was later announced that Alun Wyn Jones would be one of the three finalists taking on the Celebrity MasterChef grand final on Friday, December 19.

The final will be available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 8pm on Friday. The finalists will cook and present a three-course meal for Grace and John, who will then decide who will become the Celebrity MasterChef 2025 champion.
