The monarch stepped out for a public engagement in London today just hours after his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested.

King Charles has stepped out in London today just hours after news broke that his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor had been arrested. On Thursday morning, police were seen at Andrew’s temporary home in the Sandringham Estate where it was reported that they arrested the former duke on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.

The King, 77, issued a statement after news of the arrest, confirming that the Palace will help with any investigations if needed. He then stepped out to attend day one of London Fashion Week, where he was met with a mixed response from the public.

While the monarch waved to crowds with a warm smile, a body language expert has said that the “sadness” underneath the smile was evident.

Talking to The Express, body language expert Judi James said: “Looking frail and a little hunched in his vast overcoat, Charles’s body language signals suggest a desire for ‘business as usual’ here, but underpinned by a suggestion of anxiety or sadness.

“He rests heavily on the interior door handle as he exits from his car and he fiddles with the buttons of his coat in what looks like an excuse to perform a self-protective barrier gesture.

“His mouth smile looks like the classic royal smile but his puckered and steepled brows, plus his eye expression, suggest sadness here.

“There is a swift glance over his shoulder at the crowds and an acknowledging wave but there are no signs of any desire to hang around longer to connect with any possible fans.”

The King was not the only royal to continue on with public duty today, with Queen Camilla having been the first royal to be seen in public after Andrew’s arrest.

Camilla, like her husband, ignored questions about Andrew’s arrest as she left Sinfonia Smith Square Hall following a lunchtime orchestral concert.

It is understood that neither the King nor Buckingham Palace received advance notice before Andrew was taken into custody this morning.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing or accusations against him. Police have provided no further update since Andrew’s arrest this morning.
