A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said they received a call on Sunday afternoon local time to attend an ‘medical aid request’ at a home on Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood, Los Angeles.

The 78-year-old director first found fame as an actor during the 1970s when he played Meathead in the television show All in the Family.

Reiner met his wife whilst making the classic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, and they tied the knot in 1989. They both had three children.

Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice.

“An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others. Personally, I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him.”

One fan reacted on X: “Ah, that’s just tragic. Such a talent taken too soon, and under those circumstances, it makes it even more heartbreaking. A real loss for the film world.”

A second also chimed in: “Omg this is truly shocking news,” as a third also echoed: “Sad news about Rob and his wife.”
