Andrew Hayden-Smith has confirmed his departure from Coronation Street after joining the cobbles earlier this year as Pete Lang.

A Coronation Street favourite was showered with praise after revealing their departure from the ITV soap. Actor Andrew Hayden-Smith, who joined the cobbles this year as Pete Lang in Theo Silverton and Todd Grimshaw’s gripping storyline, has confirmed his exit from the beloved programme.

The 42-year-old performer, recognised for his roles in Byker Grove and Hollyoaks, disclosed that his final scenes have already been broadcast. Posting on Instagram, Andrew shared behind-the-scenes photographs from his Weatherfield stint, penning: “Happy 65th Birthday @coronationstreet. So unbelievably proud to have walked on your illustrious cobbles earlier this year. Here’s a little #BTS.” When a curious fan enquired: “Are you still in Corrie?” the actor confirmed: “All done now”.

His 63.7K Instagram followers rallied around the soap star with messages of encouragement.

One supporter declared: “Love a bit of Corrie. So happy for you” whilst another enthused: “You’re going to go places, Andrew, with Corrie on your CV….I love these pics…. especially the last one of Ena Sharples… reminds me of my childhood”.

A further admirer praised: “You were brilliant tho even though for a short while. We need you back,” prompting Andrew to respond with a praying hands emoji.

Meanwhile, another user commented: “You are amazing” whilst a different follower suggested: “Bring him back @coronationstreet. Make him someone’s long lost son or pair him with Todd after the Theo story is over. C’mon Corrie, you know you want to.”

Andrew’s character Pete on the cobbles became entangled in the disturbing Theo and Todd domestic abuse plot, which took a more chilling and twisted direction earlier this week.

Theo had deceived Pete by falsely claiming he and Todd were in an open relationship. To further manipulate Todd, he invited Pete round for dinner and actively encouraged their flirtation.

Yet Theo subsequently manipulated Todd through gaslighting, blaming him for going too far and being overly flirtatious with Pete.

Andrew initially rose to prominence as Ben Carter on Byker Grove in 1996, portraying the character until 2003. He then secured a position as a CBBC presenter between 2002 and 2006.

Following this, he presented UK Top 40 from 2004 to 2005, and made appearances on Blue Peter, Doctor Who and This Morning.

In recent years, Andrew has worked on PAW Patrol and Hollyoaks, where he portrayed DS Armstrong from 2016 to 2017.
