Good Morning Britain came to a halt for a tragic announcement. Ed Balls and Susanna Reid presented the ITV programme on Wednesday (February 11) and were joined in the studio by Ranvir Singh, who shared the rest of the day’s news.

In a breaking update, the ITV host announced that 10 people have been killed in a shooting at a secondary school in British Columbia and in Tumbler Ridge, Vancouver.

She said: “Canadian Police say 10 people have been killed in a shooting at a secondary in British Columbia and at a second location nearby in Tumbler Ridge, in the city of Vancouver.

“The suspected shooter was among those found dead with apparent self-inflicted injuries. According to authorities, two people were airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries and around 25 others were injured.”

The screen cut to footage of Premier of British Columbia David Eby, who was speaking at a press conference.

He said: “It makes us think about our kids’ safety when they’re going to school. We take it for granted. They go to school and they come home safe. Events like this give us pause about that safety that many Canadians have the privilege to enjoy across this country.”

Authorities described the suspect as a female wearing a dress with brown hair, local broadcaster CJDC-TV News reported.

“The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved,” Staff Sergeant Kris Clark said. Police are investigating the possibility of a second suspect’s involvement in the incident.”

Six people were found dead inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, while another died on the way to hospital. Two more people were found dead inside a residence nearby, with police believing the two shootings are connected.
