‘IF THE KING IS LISTENING… PLEASE BACK THIS’ — Sir Cliff Richard Reveals His Heartbreaking Cancer Diagnosis and Sends an Urgent Message to King Charles III

Sir Cliff Richard has sent out a message to King Charles after revealing that he’s been treated for prostate cancer. The singer, 85, announced his diagnosis on Good Morning Britain today, saying that his cancer had “gone at the moment” following treatment.

In his interview with Dermot Murnaghan, he said that he wants to join the King in his efforts to raise awareness for screening programmes. “I’ve been involved with many charities over the years and if the King is happy to front it for us, I’m sure loads of people, I certainly would join him,” he said.

“If the King is listening, I think most of us would say, ‘yeah – we’re available.’” The Mistletoe and Wine singer shared that he received the diagnosis after his health was checked for his insurance ahead of a concert tour of Australia and New Zealand.

“They found that I had prostate cancer. The good fortune was that it was not very old, and the other thing is that it has not metastasised. Nothing had moved into bones or anything like that,” he said.

“The cancer’s gone at the moment. I don’t know whether it’s going to come back. We can’t tell those sort of things but we need to, absolutely, I’m convinced, get there, get tested, get checked.”

He added that the lack of a national screening programme is “absolutely ridiculous” and called for an awareness campaign. “I think we as men have got to start saying it, we’ve got to be seen as human beings who may die of this thing.

“We have governments to look after our country and those who live in that country, so I can’t see how you can say, ‘Oh we can do this, we can do that, but we don’t do this for these people.’

“We all deserve to have the same ability to have a test and then start treatments really early. It seems to me – I’ve only been for one year now in touch with cancer, but every time I’ve talked with anybody this has come up and so I think our government must listen to us.”

Cliff went on to say that he wants to join forces with King Charles by backing an awareness campaign after the King said that his own cancer treatment will be reduced in the new year.

Former Sky presenter Dermot Murnaghan revealed earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer, sharing that it is “incurable”. Sharing an update in November, he said: “I’m doing good. I’m stage four, very clear about that. At this point it’s incurable, but it’s not untreatable and that’s the big point you’ve got to make to people.

“There’s so, so many, millions of people, affected by stage four cancer of various kinds in the United Kingdom at the moment, listening to this. Their families I’m including as well.
