Coronation Street fans have only just realised that Ben Driscoll star, Aaron McCusker, was in a huge Hollywood movie.

Aaron, 47, joined the cobbles last year as Ben, the partner of Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, who returned to Weatherfield after a seven year absence.

Ben bought Eva the Rovers Return Inn, so she could be landlady, but it came with a condition… his interfering troublesome mother, Maggie Driscoll, played by Pauline McLynn, had helped purchase the boozer and would be living with them at the venue.

The newcomer moved onto the cobbles alongside Eva, her daughter Susie, his mother Maggie and his two sons from a past relationship – Ollie and Will.

Actor Aaron has a string of credits to his name as he played Jamie Maguire in Shameless from 2007 to 2013, Finn Maguire in Marcella, Clint Dunwoody in Hope Street, Wally Schirra in The Astronaut Wives Club and Jason Donnelly in Fortitude.

However, it’s one Hollywood film role that has left soap fans floored. Aaron starred as Jim Hutton, Freddie Mercury’s boyfriend, in the 2018 feature film Bohemian Rhapsody.

The biographical drama film had four wins at the 91st Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. It was also nominated for Best Picture.

The film follows Freddie Mercury and his rock band, Queen, achieving superstardom. However, amidst his skyrocketing success, he grapples with his ego, sexuality and a fatal illness.

In Bohemian Rhapsody, actor Rami Malek portrays Freddie Mercury and Lucy Boynton as Mercury’s former fiancée and close friend Mary Austin.

Elsewhere, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Queen’s lead guitarist, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Queen’s drummer, Joe Mazzello as John Deacon, Queen’s bassist, and Aidan Gillen as John Reid, Queen’s first manager.

Other credits include Allen Leech as Paul Prenter, Tom Hollander as Jim “Miami” Beach, Mike Myers as Ray Foster, and Ace Bhatti as Bomi Bulsara – to name a few.

Taking to a Facebook fan page, one soap watcher said: “How did I just realise that Eva’s husband played Freddie mercury’s partner in bohemian rhapsody knew I recognised him x.”

To which a different account put: “Oh wow!!!!”, another wrote: “That’s where I remembered him from thanks for that”, a different viewer put: “I did not know that”, another said: “Wow that’s good spotting, I had no idea!” while another viewer added: “Ah yes!! Good spot.”
