The Princess of Wales’s Christmas carol service features a new, very special addition this year.

Kensington Palace have teased a major new addition to Princess Catherine’s Christmas carol concert which will air tonight on ITV. The Palace shared a new photograph and a new short clip on the couple’s official X account. The first post showed a piano and featured a cryptic message, which only read: “piano keys and music note emojis].

The second post, a short 10-second clip, showed two pairs of hands playing it. One pair appeared to be the future Queen’s, who is wearing her stunning sapphire engagement ring, while the other pair of hands is unknown. The Princess of Wales has previously played during her festive service.

The future Queen played piano as a child and played publicly for the first time during her first Christmas carol service in 2021.

On December 8, during the inaugural Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey, Catherine surprised guests by playing the piano while accompanying Tom Walker, who sang his song For Those Who Can’t Remember.

At the time, the princess’s performance was praised by fans on social media, who dubbed it a “real royal treat”.

Tom Walker said the future Queen had “gone to town” practising at home, playing along with a backing track.

He added: “She really invested a lot of time and energy into getting it right and making sure that it was good, so I was really impressed – great musician.”

Catherine played the piano again in 2023, during the Eurovision final.

She performed during the opening segment of the show with an ensemble rendition of Kalush Orchestra’s “Stefania,” which won the contest the previous year.

The royal performed alongside Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, the previous year’s runner-up Sam Ryder and Joss Stone, among other familiar faces.

The Royal Carols: Together at Christmas special will air on tonight at 7.25pm on ITV and ITVX.
