King Charles ‘tearful’ over ‘horror’ Grenfell Tower tragedy, reveals Gyles Brandreth
The tragedy will mark its ninth anniversary this summer
King Charles was reportedly left tearful in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy, according to Gyles Brandreth.
A fire broke out in the Grenfell Tower, a block of flats in West London, on June 14, 2017.
72 people lost their lives in the tragedy, which was described as the worst residential fire in the UK since the Blitz.

King Charles’ heartbreak following the Grenfell Tower tragedy
After hearing the news of the Grenfell tragedy, King Charles was reportedly tearful, according to TV regular Gyles Brandreth.
He made the claim on ITV daytime show This Morning this week whilst discussing King Charles’ new documentary, Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision.
The documentary follows the environmental campaigning King Charles has been doing over the past 50 years. It’ll air on Prime Video on February 6.
Speaking about the doc, Gyles said: “What’s interesting about it is that it’s totally positive. There’s no whinging, no complaining. It’s actually out there saying, ‘This is what I believe in.’ I do know how passionately he cares. Do you remember the horror of Grenfell Tower?”
He then revealed to his co-stars that he had happened to see Charles a couple of days after the tragedy at a charity event.
King Charles’ tears
“I happened to see him on a charity thing the day after, and there were tears in his eyes. He was thinking, ‘The things I’ve been saying about how we build buildings, the fabrics we use, have got to be in harmony with one another, and if they aren’t, this is what happens,’” Gyles said.
However, TV commentator Nicola Thorp, who was also on the show, argued: “Some people might turn to him and say he owns the majority of the land in the country, and people like himself and his family do have the ability to rehouse people, using Grenfell as an example, so many still unhoused.
“So I can understand why people would be critical and go, ‘Okay, there’s this fantastic film, and it is a great thing.’
“But here is somebody who has so much wealth and so much ability to try and change things, whereas people like us or those on working wages, they can’t afford it sometimes.”

King Charles’ statements over tragedies around the world
The king is no stranger to speaking up over tragedies happening in the UK, and around the world.
At the start of the year, King Charles issued a statement on a tragic fire incident in Switzerland.
The incident took place during New Year celebrations at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, a popular ski resort in southwestern Switzerland. The fire broke out at just after half past one in the morning local time.
41 people died in the fire, while hundreds of others were injured.
The king said: “My wife and I were appalled, and greatly saddened, to learn of the devastating fire last night in Crans-Montana, in Switzerland.”
He said it was “heartbreaking” that a “night of celebration for young people and families instead turned to such nightmarish tragedy”.
