Fiona Bruce presented BBC Question Time from Macclesfield where she was joined on the panel on Thursday by Labour’s chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee Emily Thornberry, Conservative shadow health secretary Stuart Andrew, Liberal Democrat chair of the Health and Social Care Committee Layla Moran, and Greg Swenson, chair of Republicans Overseas UK.

The panel were asked, “Is the death of the Conservative Party imminent?” But viewers at home erupted as they claimed the BBC host revealed her “true colours”.

In the space of a week, Nigel Farage has gained three new senior Tory defectors who have become the latest in a long line of Conservatives to join his insurgent Reform UK.

Over the weekend, Tory MP Andrew Rosindell announced his defection – bringing Reform’s count of sitting MPs in Westminster up to seven, joining Robert Jenrick, Danny Kruger, Lee Anderson, Sarah Pochin, Richard Tice, and Farage himself on the opposition benches.

Speaking on the debate programme, Lib Dems Moran stated the UK “frankly had enough” of the Tory party.

She added, “You’re all continuing to argue like rats in a sack. We’ve got big issues in this country like the NHS, like the cost of living that we need to get on with and solve.”

Fiona interjected: “Hang on Layla. Why are you not doing better then? You’ve got 72 Lib Dem MPs but look where you are in the polls. The latest polls show you’re last.

“Apart from parties no one has heard of you are below Reform, Tory, Labour, Greens and then it’s Lib Dems. What is going on in your party?”

Viewers took to X and hit out at Fiona claiming she showed political bias.

One fumed: “Fiona Bruce showing her full Tory support this evening, get rid.”

Another vented: “Fiona Bruce showing her true colours when the Lib/Dem panelist attacks the Tories!! Shame on her. Get rid of her!! #bbcqt.”

“The appalling chairing by Fiona Bruce that switched me off,” a third moaned.

While a fourth added: “Never any Lib Dems, and when you do put anyone sensible on Fiona Bruce cuts them off!”

Others came to Fiona’s defence as an X user claimed: “The earth would be on fire if Moran was in charge!”
