Another slice of early-2000s nostalgia could soon be pouring back onto our screens.

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, the much-loved BBC sitcom, is now in line for a major comeback – but not on the BBC this time.

Fans of the pub-based comedy, which originally starred Sheridan Smith, Will Mellor and Ralf Little, will already be familiar with its mix of romance, raucous humour and northern charm.

The BBC ran the show from 2001 to 2011, spanning nine successful series and building a loyal following.

We’re now hearing that Susan Nickson, the show’s creator, has secured the rights to the series from the BBC.

This opens the door for the sitcom to be pitched to rival broadcasters or streaming platforms, reports The Sun.

Show star Will Mellor previously claimed that the BBC pulled out of an earlier attempt to revive the show.

He told This Morning in 2025: “We did have a script, we pitched it and the BBC turned it down. They said they just didn’t want to revisit it”

Will added at the time: “But it doesn’t mean it’s over! It was called Two Pints: Last Orders. Me and Ralf are up for it, so if anyone wants to make it, let’s do it!”

Also speaking last year, Sheridan Smith confirmed she was on board for a reunion.

“I’d love to do that. Especially after seeing Gavin & Stacey, where they all came back together.”

She added to The Guardian newspaper: “I think Two Pints was like our uni for people who didn’t do uni. It would be a reunion with all your pals. I’d do it again in a heartbeat if everyone wanted to.”

Two Pints joins a growing crop of noughties hits eyeing a return, with plans also in the works for Footballers Wives and The Inbetweeners.
