Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh has issued a breaking news announcement after opening up the ITV show. The sad update followed the emerging news that multiple people, including children, are missing after a landslide at a campsite in New Zealand. Ranvir shared the update and told viewers that rescuers and sniffer dogs are “desperately digging through the debris” in tourist location Mount Maun-ganui in the country’s North Island, which has hit by record rainfall.
She then handed over to reporter Lorna Shaddick who discussed the incident as videos emerged of trees falling on the campsite and terrified yells as she said: “A sunny holiday spot, obliterated in seconds.” She told viewers how caravans on the site were crushed and tents have been flattened.

One tourist described the incident and said he had heard the tree crack behind him and saw a caravan coming down. He said: “It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Emergency services had to withdraw from the rubble due to the risk of another landslide, with the reporter stating there was no signs of life from the rubble since the withdrawal. Superintendent Tim Anderson of the New Zealand Police said they’re on a mission to rescue people, and stated while he can’t provide accurate numbers of those missing, he stated it was single figures.
It was explained that the mass rainfall has led to flooding and power outages which officials had stated was a “once in a hundred-year event.”
Ranvir then welcomed reporter Jordyn Rudd who was active on the scene and told the host that it was still an “active and evolving situation”, which officials were still calling a rescue mission, stating: “We have no reason to assume otherwise.”
There were still emergency services working to clear the debris, but stated there hadn’t been an update. Concerns of a further slip has continued with Jordyn reporting that they are “very much a town still on edge as we await updates from the campsite.”
Concern has continued to be raised with people describing the news as “heartbreaking”, while loved ones and concerned citizens continue to wait for further updates.
