GB News’ usual programming was halted for major breaking news as Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued an announcement about being allies with the US amid the strikes in Iran. On Sunday (March 1), Sir Keir declared that the UK has agreed to a US request to use British military bases for “defensive” attacks on Iranian missile sites. GB News’ Alex Armstrong was unimpressed with the deal in which the UK will support the US without taking offensive action. The presenter was joined by the Director of IRGC research, Kasra Aarabi, who fumed: “The Prime Minister should be standing with our greatest ally.

“This is a hostile regime; the Islamic regime’s official slogan is death to England.” Kasra claimed: “They have plotted more than 20 terror attacks on our soil, they have been targeting our parliamentarians, they’ve been trying to ferment discourse in our society. The fall of the Islamic Regime in Iran is in Britain’s interest,” he insisted.

Kasra continued: “Yet Starmer is nowhere to be seen, again.”

GB News host Alex added: “We’re just left sitting on the fence, it’s weakness from Britain, we’re exporting weakness as a continent, as a country … surely the Prime Minister should be acting while they are weak.”

This comes after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was found dead amongst the rubble after the strikes on Saturday (February 28).

Responding to the host, the senior political commentator, Nigel Nelson, explained: “The key words that Starmer used there was ‘international law’ and the reasons we didn’t join the Americans or allow them to use our bases was because we didn’t have a legal opinion which said it was within international law.

“Which means the UN have to approve it, or you’re acting in self-defence because of an imminent threat.”

The commentator added: “What Keir Starmer is talking about now is that British lives are at imminent threat, therefore we have a legitimate reason to take action against any incoming missiles, planes or drones that come from Iran.”

In his speech, Sir Keir said the basis of the decision to accept the US request was the “collective self-defence” of allies and protecting British lives, accusing Iran of pursuing a “scorched-earth strategy”.

The US will use the bases for the “specific and limited defensive purpose” of destroying Iran’s missiles “at source”, he added.

The Prime Minister said the move was in accordance with international law, and the government would publish a summary of its legal advice.
