Fiona Bruce hosted Thursday’s episode of Question Time from King’s Lynn where she was joined by Scotland’s Secretary of State Douglas Alexander, Conservative MP James Cartlidge, General Secretary of the University and College Union Jo Grady and podcaster, satirist and political commentator Konstantin Kisin.

The BBC host took a question from audience member Simon, who asked, “How can anyone think Reform are a party of change when they only appear to be a care home for old Tories?” The cheeky question got a laugh from inside the studio, as Fiona remarked, “I think it’s clear where you stand on the issue Simon.”

She then turned to panellist, and said, “Konstantine, [is Reform] a care home for old Tories?”

“Well it’s interesting,” he replied, “you introduced me as a Reform supporter which I am not.” As the room went quiet, Konstantine continued, “I was asked a question about which party seems to be addressing the issues that I care about. Of all the parties on offer, Reform is doing more of that.”

A stunned Fiona interjected: “I was just quoting you actually Constantine. You were saying they offer the best hope for the country in the next election.

He corrected: “I never said that!”

The Question Time presenter remained silent as the podcaster went on to clarify his previous statement.

Konstantine explained: “It’s not to say I disagree with it. We are so far away from the next election how can you know which party offers the best hope.

[Reform] are talking about the issues that are important. They’re talking about net zero, they’re talking about economic stagnation. They have a sensible understanding of the trans-atlantic relationship. I’m in favour of all that.”

If Keir Starmer comes out as being pro dealing with illegal immigration, which he isn’t, if he comes out about net zero, which he isn’t, I will vote for him in a heartbeat.”

He then attempted to shut down the BBC presenter as he concluded, “back to your question”.

Social media users flocked to comment on the awkward moment as one X user said: “Secret Reform fan @KonstantinKisin shouting everyone down.”

Another branded Konstantin “arrogrant”, while a third remarked: “I don’t think KK likes being challenged #bbcqt.”

While others defended the panellist as they wrote: “Must be watching something different to me.”

At the start of the programme, Fiona introduced Konstantin saying, “he’s been described as an anti-woke libertarian”.

She added, “he said Reform UK offers the best hope for the country at the next election”. He denied ever saying this.
