Kurt Russell is grateful to be alive as he approaches a significant birthday milestone. The actor is looking forward to turning 75 on March 17, though he remained coy about how he intends to mark the occasion.

When asked about his birthday celebrations, Kurt – who has been in a relationship with 80 year old actress Goldie Hawn since 1983 : “I don’t know, a beer.

“We had a big Christmas, and our birthdays just come and go, but I’m looking forward to it. It’s a big number, and I’m happy to be here, feeling healthy.”

The Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star – who has chosen not to marry Goldie as the couple feel their bond transcends a marriage certificate – attributed his longevity to maintaining “good health “.

Meanwhile, Goldie – who first encountered Kurt in 1966 whilst filming Disney’s The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band – believes “good sex” is the key to their enduring partnership.

Goldie – who shares son, actor Wyatt Russell, 39, with Kurt – emphasised that intimacy alone wasn’t sufficient to sustain a long-term relationship. The celebrity, who is also stepmother to Boston Russell, 46, Kurt’s son with his 74-year-old ex-wife and former actress Season Hubley, said: “You have to be nice to each other upon occasion.”

However, Goldie – mother to actress Kate Hudson, 46, and actor Oliver Hudson, 49, from her relationship with Bill – attributes the longevity of her relationship with Kurt to freedom.

During a recent appearance on The Dan Buettner Podcast, she said: “I really feel this way, and I always have. And even if we did get married, it wouldn’t make any difference because it’s 42 years now.

“If I’m a bird and you leave the cage door open, I may never fly out. But if you close that door, for my freedom and my independence, I would probably take, like, all my feathers off. It’s a freedom of self, it’s a freedom of basically, not melding into somebody else.”
