Vernon Kay has said he’s ‘putting it out there’ as he championed the return of a show he once hosted, following in his wife Tess Daly’s footsteps as she looks back at her own career.

The BBC Radio 2 star was quick to support his broadcaster wife as she revealed she was leaving Strictly Come Dancing alongside co-host Claudia Winkleman at the end of the current series.

Tess has been at the helm of the hit BBC One dance show since it began back in 2004, first hosting alongside the legendary Sir Bruce Forsyth. It was then in 2014 that she began co-hosting the beloved programme alongside Claudia after her late colleague and friend decided to step down from presenting duties, a couple of years before his death in 2017.

But last month, Tess confirmed that her time fronting Strictly was coming to an end, as she and Claudia have decided to bow out of the show at the end of the current series. Tess, 56, and Claudia, 53, announced the surprise news on social media in a joint statement, alongside a video in which they discussed their decision.

With the end of Strictly’s 2025 series nearing, with the final set to take place on December 20, Tess has been seen doing some look-backs on her 21 years hosting the show.

Now, Vernon has got in on the action as he has been seen looking back at a clip from a celebrity version of Family Fortunes, which saw Stacey Solomon and her family go up against Emmerdale star Danny Miller and his loved ones.

He was heard discussing his 14 series, saying it was “always a joy” being able to deliver the questions on the popular programme, admitting: “You never knew what you were going to get!” As he watched more, Vernon shared: “I had the best time doing Family Fortunes.”

Alongside the clip, the broadcaster wrote on Instagram: “Throwing it back to my Family Fortunes days!! 14 series of pure chaos, laughs, and answers you could never predict!! One of the best game shows ever… hands down. And yes… a Christmas special wouldn’t go amiss!! Just putting it out there!! “

And fans were quick to join the call for it to come back. @sorrento320 said: “Yes – ITV need to bring this back with you hosting. Millions would watch.” @coaster_crazy_andy pleaded: “Please do Family Fortune again.” @loweserena wrote: “Oh yes !!! Bring it back your were brilliant in that as in everything you put your hands too.”

@lynn.m13 replied: “Definitely needs to come back for a Christmas special! Get it sorted please Vernon.2 @spider_zo_01 added: “One of my favourite tv quiz shows ever, I enjoyed watching it growing up, I miss it a lot. I still love it now.
