Susanna Reid questioned David Lammy about two prisoners who have been “mistakenly released”.

Justice Secretary David Lammy was quizzed by Susanna Reid in an “uncomfortable” interview on Good Morning Britain. Speaking on the morning programme, he was questioned about whether there have been further prisoners accidentally freed. He confirmed that two remain at large, and Susanna pressed him on whether the two further prisoners accidentally released are violent or sexual offenders. David replied: “I’m reassured that they are not,” but did not provide any further details. He also confirmed to Sky News earlier today that there have been further prisoners accidentally freed since he made a statement on the issue last month.

One person replied on X: “I just can’t take David Lammy seriously as a human being #skynews #gmb #goodmorningbritain #Labour.” A second also said: “He looks so uncomfortable. #gmb.”

A third commented: “He should tell the public who these two are, and what they were jailed for.”

However, another person argued: “@GMB Poor interview on David Lammy. Is it perhaps that @edballs is in the driving seat. C**p questions.”

Another also complained: “@GMB Why is @susannareid100 doing this right wing thing of suggesting prisoners released by accident are “on the run”? They are NOT on the run. They have been released from prison earlier than they should be. They didn’t escape! She is becoming a liability! #GMB.”

On Sky News, David was grilled on how many more people had been wrongly released since he gave an update on 11 November, where he replied, “There have been two.”

He then further clarified to the BBC later on that “there have been 12 (mistaken releases) since then, two are currently at large”.

David told Sky: “There have been releases in error since I made that statement, but I want to convey that the trend this year is fortunately downwards.

“There are two people currently at large… and a prison system that is paper-based. Mistakes happen.”
