Strictly Come Dancing star Amber Davies has once again hit out at her critics after a ‘tough’ week – stressing that she was ‘never supposed’ to be on the show in the first place.

The Love Island star, 29, who is also a professionally trained dancer, admitted that the backlash is getting to her on Wednesday’s episode of It Takes Two.

She was drafted in as a last-minute replacement for her fellow Love Island star Dani Dyer, 29, after she injured herself while preparing for the show.

But fans were not happy when Amber and her pro partner Nikita Kuzmin beat Lewis Cope and dance pro Katya Jones on Sunday to secure a place in the semi-final and flooded social media with criticism.

Amber said: ‘I would like to think I have thick skin, but obviously the start of the week has been tougher than usual.

‘I would just like to remind everybody that I was never supposed to be here. I was a quick replacement. I’m just doing my best.’

Amber then took the opportunity to thank those who have been supportive of her Strictly journey and added: ‘The love is actually more overpowering than the hate, so if you’ve sent a message or a kind comment our way, then we really do appreciate it so much.’

She wrote on Instagram after Sunday’s dance-off: ‘I will always be your number one fan Lewis Cope.

‘To go up against one of the greatest dancers Strictly has ever seen was simply terrifying, however, I was actually dancing against my best friend in this competition, and that broke my heart.’

Amber’s comments come after the Bookies have issued her a damning verdict ahead of Saturday’s semi-final.

The West End star had previously been considered a frontrunner in the BBC competition.

Despite high scores across the series, the latest odds suggest Amber could be on her way out of the ballroom.

Ladbrokes have removed EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal from bottom of the betting and put the former Love Island winner there instead.

With odds of 50/1, this means Amber is now considered the outsider to win with YouTuber George Clarke deemed the favourite.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati shared: ‘George and Karen are as good as neck-and-neck in the Strictly betting, but having made it this far, we’re not yet ruling out what would go down as the biggest Strictly upset of all-time.’

The semi-final will see Amber, George, Balvinder and ex-Lioness Karen Carney face off to stay in the running.

It comes as Amber survived last week’s dance off, triumphing over fellow frontrunner, Emmerdale alum Lewis Cope.

Amber and Nikita – who scored 40 on Saturday night – performed their Charleston to Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat from Guys and Dolls, before Lewis and Katya performed their Salsa to Dance at the Gym from West Side Story.

Shirley Ballas said of the dance off result: ‘I’m speechless. Absolutely speechless.

‘You have to dance your place in the semi-final. We are all admiring of all you. May the best man win’.

Motsi Mabuse had the casting vote and also decided to put Amber and Nikita through to the semi-final, after the other three judges voted for the former Love Island star.
