Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, shared a powerful message on Instagram following the horrific shooting death of political activist Charlie Kirk.

On Wednesday afternoon, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during an open debate at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old was on his first stop of the “American Comeback Tour” and was responding to a question about mass shootings when he was shot in the neck from the rooftop of a campus building in a terrifying and gruesome scene.

Less than three hours after the shooting, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Kirk had died. After a two-day manhunt, authorities arrested the suspect, a 22-year-old Utah native named Tyler Robinson.

On her Instagram story, Brittany Mahomes shared a powerful message initially posted by author Sharon McMahon. Regardless of your political leaning, it’s a message everyone should follow during a frightening time of increased division and rising political violence:

“Hate will not get us out of this mess. Your feelings might lie and try to tell you otherwise, but hate doesn’t know how to heal or build, only how to harm and destroy.”

Kirk was a vocal and influential supporter of Donald Trump. Brittany Mahomes’ social media activity leading up to the 2024 presidential election strongly indicated that she supports Trump, who called her “a great person” in an interview with Bret Baier of Fox News.

Kirk rose to prominence as a 19-year-old in 2012, co-founding the Turning Point USA nonprofit organization. From there, he made it a goal to promote more political education for high school and post-secondary students.

Though Charlie Kirk was a polarizing figure because of his many controversial right-wing views and outspoken style, he also promoted freedom of speech and healthy debates with his public “Prove Me Wrong” events.

Charlie Kirk spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention when he was only 26. Four years later, he spoke again at the convention and was cited as a key influence behind Trump’s success in the young voter crowd, a significant reason why he defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
