GB News came to an unexpected halt as Eamonn Holmes announced Prince William’s unexpected change in royal duties. On Wednesday (December 10), the Irish presenter returned to the helm alongside his co-star Ellie Costello. Minutes into the show, the dynamic duo brought their morning show to a halt as they explored the changes to serving members of the Royal Family.

They announced that the future King of England could soon be taking his son, Prince George, to visit homelessness charities as part of his introduction to public life. The senior royal attended Centrepoint’s new London headquarters on Tuesday (December 9) to celebrate 20 years as the charity’s Patron.

Now, Seyi Obakin, the chief executive of Centrepoint, has revealed the plans for the young royal. He told GB News: “The time will come when Prince George will visit Centrepoint, but not just Centrepoint, another homelessness organisation.

“The time will come, and I suspect it’s not very far away, but we have to let Prince George be a child. His parents will know when it’s the right time.” The dad-of-three first attended the homelessness charity with his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, back in 1996, and has vowed never to become an “ornamental patron”.

In a short speech to the staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries, he said: “Many of you have been here many more years than that, and it’s an amazing moment ot think, in 20 years, how much has changed and been achieved by all of you.”

He added: “The Centrepoint family is one I am very proud to be a part of, and I can’t thank you all enough for the hard work, every day, you give to help other people. It’s fantastic, and that massive cake signifies the love, generosity, and time you all give to helping others, so make sure you take a piece.”

Mr Obakin added that when Prince William was asked to take on the formal role two decades ago, he made it clear he didn’t want to be an “ornamental patron” and has since lived up to that promise. He said: “Some of the things we have been able to do, we probably would not have done without his patronage.

“When I first met him, I said to him, ‘I’d like you to be a patron for a very long time’, and he told me he wanted to get involved, understand what’s going on, and know how he could help. He has been true to his word in every sense.”

In 2009, Mr. Obakin and Prince William spent a night sleeping on the streets as part of a bold awareness campaign to highlight the issue of rising homelessness in the UK. The Prince has since launched his Homewards project, which aims to bring the sector together to demonstrate that homelessness can be “rare, brief, and unrepeated.”
