Macy Gray finally speaks out on Masked Singer storm off and lashes out at Example

Macy Gray has finally spoken out about dramatically storming off the Masked Singer stage. She has opened up saying she was “so offended” to have been voted out of the show.

Fans of the ITV show were left speechless earlier in the year when the star was dressed up as Toad In The Hole, but she didn’t stay on stage long.

The legendary singer was voted to take her mask off, but before she could do so, she stormed off. She couldn’t believe that she had been asked to leave before rapper Example, as she said that he “can’t sing”.

Macy found herself in the bottom two against Bear, who turned out to be rapper Example. The 58-year-old has now said the real reason why she was so upset while on the show.

The Sun reported that she can be a very competitive person. She then took a swipe at Example saying: “Yes, I’m up there singing my heart out and some guy comes around and they picked the guy and the guy couldn’t even sing. Yes, what am I doing here.”

Macy said that when she found out he had been saved instead of her, she was “so offended”. She then even said that the whole experience was “not fun”.

This isn’t the first time she has been on the programme, as she has also done the US and Australian versions as well. She then admitted that she doesn’t enjoy the shows, they just “pay really well” which is why she appears.

The show was thrown into chaos when the singer stormed off stage and, due to Macy reaching the final in the US version, she was “totally blindsided”. The episode shows Macy leaving he stage but then coming back just moments later.

However, bosses are said to have been trying to get her back on stage for almost an hour, but this wasn’t aired. A source said: “This has never happened on The Masked Singer before. When Macy stormed off stage everyone was frozen in shock but as soon as she reached backstage, crew removed her mask so they could talk her down.

“Macy was almost shellshocked to start with and was basically gutted to be out so early because she really enjoyed being on the American version – when obviously she did brilliantly – so was totally blindsided.

“It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out.

“For a professional performer to reach that point shows how badly she felt. Obviously The Masked Singer isn’t a singing competition and is just a bit of fun, so being voted off was no indication of her talent, but no one could believe a global superstar like Macy had lost it like this.”
