King Charles delivered his Christmas message hailing “triumph of courage over adversity” and celebrating community spirit but BBC viewers were left distracted by his poignant message just seconds into the annual broadcast. This year’s Christmas message from King Charles III was delivered from Westminster Abbey.

This traditional speech, filmed in the Lady Chapel of the medieval church in central London, followed his “good news” earlier this month about responding well to cancer treatment.

Social media users flocked to X as they all said the same thing just seconds into the King’s speech.

One tweeted: “#KingsSpeech worst Xmas day speech ever!! Get William on the throne!”

Another commented: “Not a lot of tweeting going on about #KingCharles or his #KingsSpeech.Thought there’d be lots on both sides of the coin. Perhaps people of all persuasions are finally tired of the whole thing #TheKing.”

A third moaned: “Worst #KingsSpeech ever. A load of dribble about peace and forgiveness and do unto others.”

A fourth complained: “Didn’t even say hello at the start, best bit as always the choir, especially the girls with their angelic voices #KingsSpeech.”

Another argued: “I think the king missed the young people & working class of the UK!!#Kingsspeech.”
