A Sky News broadcast was thrown into chaos on Saturday morning after a reporter accidentally dropped the f-bomb live on air while covering allegations involving David Walliams, forcing presenters to scramble during the breakfast show. The on-air blunder unfolded during Sky News Breakfast, hosted by Anna Jones and Kamali Melbourne, as the programme cut to Arts and Entertainment Correspondent Katie Spencer for an update on the growing controversy surrounding the comedian and children’s author.
As she began outlining Walliams’ career, Spencer appeared to lose her place in the script and audibly swore in frustration. Viewers heard her say: “Oh f*** it I’m going to start again. Do not ever air me saying the f-word,” before attempting to restart the segment. The broadcast was immediately cut, with the camera snapping back to the main studio where Melbourne and Jones were presenting. Melbourne’s reaction did not go unnoticed, with viewers spotting what many described as a “priceless” expression as he turned briefly to his co-host before addressing the camera.

Raising his eyebrows, Melbourne told viewers: “Yeah, so, apologies if you heard any bad language there – we will check that out.”
Attempting to lighten the moment, he then turned to Sky’s sports presenter Jacquie Beltrao and joked: “But Jacquie’s joined us – no bad language, Jacs.” Beltrao replied without missing a beat: “No bad language from me!”
Moments later, the camera again showed a visibly bemused Jones and Melbourne, who repeated their apology to viewers.
Melbourne once more quipped to Beltrao: “No bad language Jacs,” prompting her to repeat: “No bad language from me!”
The gaffe was quickly clipped and shared across social media, where viewers reacted within minutes of the moment airing.
On X, one viewer wrote: “Sky News’ Katie Spencer had a little whoopsie on live TV. The face on the bloke at the desk …. PRICELESS. The perils of live TV.”
Another was less forgiving, posting: “‘Apologies if you heard any bad language.’ You literally had to be deaf not to hear any bad language.”
A third viewer suggested the segment may have been pre-recorded, but added: “Schoolboy error from the reporter though. Never swear on camera, ever, live or not.”
The incident occurred during coverage of claims that Walliams had harassed and behaved inappropriately towards female members of staff.
It was confirmed yesterday that Harper Collins would no longer publish his work following an internal investigation prompted by accusations that emerged in 2023.
The BBC has since confirmed it has no plans for future projects involving Walliams, dealing another blow to any potential prime-time return. The former Britain’s Got Talent judge has denied the allegations.
Despite the mounting fallout, Walliams is understood to currently be on a break in the Maldives with his 12-year-old son, Alfred.
The allegations relate to complaints made by junior colleagues in 2023, with reports claiming interviews were conducted with staff and that one woman who raised concerns received a five-figure payout and has since left Harper Collins.
The BBC said in a statement: “While we’re not making any changes to the festive schedules, we have no future projects directly involving David Walliams.”
