Netflix star of Last Chance U, John Beam, has died after being sh0t on a college campus. The former community college football coach was sh0t on campus at Laney College in Oakland, California, where he worked. He took the football team to streaming service Netflix for an eight-part series that documented the lives of junior college athletes who were trying to turn their lives around through sports.

An arrest has been made in connection with the sh00ting. Cedric Irving Jr, 27, was arrested by the Alameda County Sheriff’s department and faces possible murder charges against 66-year-old Beam. Calls of sh0ts being fired came in to police shortly before noon on November 13th, and the campus was placed on lockdown for an hour.

Beam sadly died hours later, on November 14th. He had coached football for more than 40 years, retiring as head coach in 2024 but staying on as athletic director at Laney College.

Tributes have flooded in for the star, with spokesperson for the Peralta Community College District Mark Johnson saying in a statement: “We are stunned and heartbroken that such violence has touched our campus and one of the most respected and beloved members of our Laney, Peralta, and Oakland community. John Beam is a renowned coach, teacher, mentor, and leader whose impact extends far beyond athletics.”
