A former star who appeared on I’m A Celebrity in 2004 has thanked the ITV series for “saving his life.” Former royal butler Paul Burrell famously appeared on the show over 20 years ago and then returned for the All Stars series in 2023. The TV star has since admitted that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022 following a routine medical check. Paul appeared on ITV’s Lorraine today to talk about this year’s series, where he said: “Can I just thank ITV and I’m A Celebrity, please. I found out that I had prostate cancer when I did a medical for All Stars. That saved my life, so thank you, I’m A Celebrity. I am so grateful.”
Paul has since been given the all clear from his cancer. The I’m A Celebrity legend previously opened up about his diagnosis in 2023, where he appeared on Lorraine again to give a full description of what happened.

He said: “In the summer, I had to go for a medical for a TV programme I was doing, and their duty of care was that I had a full MOT.
“And out of that came a surprisingly high PSA, I had no idea what a PSA test was. Apparently, it is a chemical that is released by your prostate gland. So, I went to my GP and he said ‘This is unusual’, he examined me and said, ‘you look to be fairly normal’.
“So he sent me for an MRI scan, and of course, that was the window.”

Six months after revealing his cancer diagnosis, Paul issued a statement where he told fans on Lorraine in November 2023: “Well, I’m happy to tell you I saw my consultant last week and she gave me the all clear.
“My number came down from 10 to something like 0.06, so it’s good news and I’ll continue with the hormone therapy, which is a bit of a pain because I put on a little bit of weight, I’m getting more emotional than usual and hot sweats.”
He also encouraged viewers to go and get checked regularly, adding: “There are thousands of men out there who don’t have symptoms like me. I was lucky, they caught it out there.
“You’ve got loads of lovely female viewers who can say to their men, go get tested.”
