Michael Strahan left audiences in shock with his short one-word reply to Will Reeve on Monday’s episode of Good Morning America.

The NFL icon co-hosts the show with the 32 year old star, and they were discussing high school reunions with the show’s anchors, including Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos. The conversation took an unexpected twist, leading to a surprising on-air exchange.

Reeve, taken aback by the abrupt response, simply said “okay,” and tried to steer the conversation forward. However, before he could, Strahan decided to clarify why he responded so tersely.

As it turns out, the NFL Hall of Famer never attended – or even had – a high school reunion because his graduating class consisted of only two people, much to everyone’s surprise. As Reeve nervously chuckled at this revelation, Strahan playfully demonstrated what a high school reunion for two people might look like.

“‘How are you?’ ‘How are you?’ Okay let’s go home,” Strahan quipped, sending the audience—and co-anchors Roberts and Stephanopoulos—into fits of laughter. Reeve, not immune to the amusement, offered an apology to Strahan amid his own laughter.

The side-splitting exchange was shared on social media by the show, where fans of Strahan rushed to the comments section to express their enjoyment of his sharp humor, dubbing the retort “hilarious” and praising his ability to “not miss a beat.

“Best response! Great delivery. Way to keep it real, Michael,” one admirer remarked, while another chimed in: “Such a funny moment.” A playful notion emerged among some viewers that a high school reunion with only two attendees could perhaps be “the best ever!”, and a different individual reflected: “I thought my class of 37 was small!”.

Perhaps these memories are tied to why Strahan once confessed his lack of fondness for his high school years. Revealing his sentiment during ESPN’s More Than an Athlete series in 2021, he confided: “High school to me was surviving every day. I never felt like I had a handle on everything. I was just surviving.”

Strahan’s journey began in Houston, Texas, and took a turn when at the age of nine he moved to Germany so his father could take on an army post. He came back to the United States for his senior high school year, staying with his uncle, and this is when his football career sparked into existence.

“My social life right there,” Strahan noted with a chuckle while reminiscing about his early years, playfully indicating its small magnitude with his fingers. “Or as the kids say, ‘loser’. Nothing happened in my social life. My life was school and I played football which was the real reason I was there.”
