I’m a Celeb’s Angry Ginge won’t get paid for winning as he’s forced to hand back prize

TikTok star Angry Ginge was crowned the winner of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on Sunday night

The winner of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! was finally revealed last night, after three weeks of emotional ups and downs. TikTok star Angry Ginge was crowned King of the Jungle on Sunday, December 7.

He beat Celebs Go Dating receptionist Tom Read Wilson and former EastEnders actress Shona McGarty, who came second and third respectively, to become the final campmate remaining.

Angry Ginge claimed the title from the previous winner, McFly’s Danny Jones. Just like the musician, Angry Ginge, who has millions of social media followers, had to give up his floral crown and wooden sceptre before even leaving Australia for the UK.

Sam Thompson, who claimed victory before Danny, also revealed how he had to hand back the items, with “nothing to show” for his triumph.

Speaking about it on This Morning at the time, he said: “I didn’t get to keep anything. They wouldn’t let me keep anything,” reports the Liverpool Echo.

As the champion of the show, Angry Ginge was presented with a flower crown and a wooden sceptre.

However, the final campmate standing doesn’t get a cash prize for winning the competition itself, as a pre-arranged appearance fee is paid, which can range from tens of thousands to over a million pounds, depending on their level of fame.

All contestants receive this fee, provided they remain in the jungle for a minimum of 72 hours, regardless of their final position in the public vote. Shona is rumoured to be pocketing a tidy sum of around £95,000 for her stint on the show, while Tom’s pay packet is estimated to fall between £60,000 and £80,000.

Meanwhile, Angry Ginge is reportedly earning a cool £100,000 for his appearance.

Angry Ginge stated, “I didn’t do it to become King. I did it for the experience.”

His sister, Tasha Burtwistle, described his participation in the show as a bucket-list moment.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: “I knew it was on his bucket list, something he never thought he’d actually get to do, so I was just really happy for him.”

Tasha, who had the chance to briefly visit her brother in the jungle along with their mum, expressed that he was “smashing it” and she was “proud of how far he’s come”.
