Good Morning Britain viewers have taken to social media to complain over the show’s interview with Chancellor Rachel Reeves due to presenter Ed Balls’ involvement. The Chancellor of the Exchequer appeared live on GMB after yesterday’s Budget, with hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid grilling the Labour politician over her financial plans.

However, some viewers felt that Ed was too close to the situation given that he was previously Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer for Labour and that his wife is in the Cabinet. Ed was the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2011 until 2015 during his time as an MP and joined the GMB presenting line-up after retiring as a politician.

Ed’s wife, Yvette Cooper, is currently Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The pair have been married since 1998 and share three children together.

During today’s interview, some viewers complained on social media over Ed taking part considering his connection to the Labour government. “#GMB Ed Balls should not be interviewing his wife’s colleague who she sat next to on the front bench yesterday; he is an ex-Labour Chancellor and is pro Reeves agenda. He’s biased,” one viewer wrote.

Another tweeted: “Ed Balls should not be on #gmb too close to Labour and his previous role with them. #ofcom this is unacceptable.”

A third said: “HOW uncomfortable does @edballs look interviewing @RachelReevesMP on @GMB? I mean, the former labour shadow chancellor grilling the current Labour chancellor wouldn’t be a good look, but maybe keep him out of shot? #GMB #Budget2025.”

“#gmb Balls should not be interviewing his wife’s colleagues.” a fourth said.
