Presenter Fleur East announced: “We have seen your confidence blossom and grow throughout the series and the people closest to you have seen that too. This is what they made of your Strictly experience.”

The camera then cut to a video montage from his sister Emily, Auntie Sally and cousin Tori

Emily said: “It’s so nice to see him blossom into this confident, funny boy that he is now. I think it has given us something to look forward to in quite a tricky end of our year. As the experience has gone on George has become a lot more open and letting his emotions out.”

Meanwhile Sally jumped in and added: “You sit back and think about it and you still can’t believe it.” After the emotional clip, George was left wiping back his tears as he said: “Sorry. I don’t think we have thought about it and we have tried not to this week and I think that is why we have enjoyed the process so much.”

Struggling to get his words out, he got choked up as he said: “Because we have been so present.. sorry this is awful…” Attempting to finish his sentence he continued: “Because we have been so present and just focused each week, I’ve really enjoyed that.

“It would be incredible to lift the Glitterball Trophy. No matter if we go home with the Glitterball or not, it will be a week of celebration afterwards.”
